I was never super interested in cooking until recently. My dad has always loved cooking and tried to teach me but it never really stuck until I started living in an apartment. Once I started living on my own, I knew if I wanted to not eat ramen every night, I needed to learn how to cook. So, I went to the store and bought some basic ingredients and when I got home, I learned what the hardest part of cooking was. What to make with what I have.
Now I had cooked things with my dad before but there he told me exactly what to do. After some intense thought (calling my dad for help) I ended up making a rice bowl with beef and broccoli. It honestly wasn't that bad but I knew I was missing something to unlock more flavor. That's when I learned about this magical thing called "seasoning". Since then, I now experiment with everything I make using different seasoning and techniques to find the best recipes for cheap and easy meals.
My most recent spark for my love of cooking has been my new kitchen job at a bar. It's not the most complex or best food ever but I have really enjoyed making and prepping all the food there. As for what I make now, my current go to meal at home has been fried rice. You just heat up some day-old rice with eggs, veggies, sesame oil, chicken, and a good amount of soy sauce. It's been a life saver because one batch can usually last me about 4 days.
